Kid Cudi’s New Record, Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’ boasts cameos from Willow, Andre 3000, Pharrell Williams and Travis Scott in delayed release.

Kid Cudi‘s new record Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’ is finally out after being delayed earlier this year. The album did not drop on September 26th, due to significant delays in sample clearances. Kid Cudi planned two releases this year, one, presumably, being the long-awaited Man On The Moon III.

Nineteen songs from both albums were brought together to make up Kid Cudi’s latest album Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’. I found this album to be quite redundant across all nineteen songs. The album feels the same throughout and you may find yourself confused about which song is playing. I did enjoy “Swim In The Light” with its catchy vocal melody, it comes off accessible to the average listener. “Swim In The Light”  also clings to the spacey experimental sound found on every other song. Features from other artists help break things up a bit like Willow Smith‘s appearance on “Rose Golden”, Travis Scott on “Baptized In Fire”, Andre 3000 (Andre Benjamin) on “By Design” & “The Guide” and Pharrell Williams on “Flight At First Sight/Advance” & “Surfin”.

If I was high on something, I’m willing to bet I would like this album more. Passion, Pain & Demon Slain’ is not for everybody, you are either a huge Kid Cudi fan or you are deep into ambient experimental music where nothing seems to end or begin. You can say I’m living in the past when it comes to Kid Cudi. I found myself longing for Man On The Moon I and II. There’s nothing wrong with growing and experimenting but honestly, don’t make it a growing pain.
