Kanye West "Wash Us In The Blood"

In a struggling world, Kanye West holds up a mirror with his new video, “Wash Us In The Blood,” featuring Travis Scott. Kanye’s new video plays on the reaction video style found on YouTube today.

On one half of the screen, you got a wild-haired tribal looking man watching random people turn-up online. Citizens are arguing with police officers, one of them being removed from the situation by a superior. Women are twerking as the words “God’s Country” appears underneath. Then we have a morphed and pixilated Kanye rapping throughout the video.

We get a look at two people in the hospital on oxygen machines as they struggle to breathe—an intimate look at those battling a potentially fatal virus. We see this ugly reality of our current status during this pandemic.

“Drop this for the thugs, know I grew up in the mud, the top is not enough — Wash us in the blood,” he continues, later on, rapping, “Wash us in the blood, wash us in the blood — whole life being thugs.”

Yeezy’s music videos carry meaning. It will take some time to truly unpack what and why some things are happening in this video. One thing for sure in Ye’s message — he’s asking for God’s covering over us all. And how we need to look at our relationship with the higher power during all this chaos and disorder.

Kanye’s Working with Dr. Dre

New music from the likes of artists like Ye is always a welcomed surprise. You never know when you’ll get it. We welcome this new normal of abundant and fast creativity from artists.

Earlier today on Twitter, Kanye West tweeted the premiere for the visual of his new song “Wash Us In The Blood.” Directed by Arther Jafa, who worked on videos for Solange‘s “Cranes In The Sky” and “Don’t Touch My Hair.” His production company also held down the visuals for JAY-Z‘s “4:44” title track.

Dr. Dre mixed all of the music, according to Ye’s tweet. West mentioned they would be working together at the end of 2019 on Jesus Is King II. The follow-up to Kanye’s first Gospel album. However, based on the video the next album is going to be called God’s Country.

A couple of days ago, consistent collaborator of Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, shared a video of Yeezy and Dre in the studio.

“Kanye West got some hot music. Kanye West got some hot s–t. Only I can get exclusive footage. It’s finna come out. Dre touched it,” whispered Snoop in a behind the scenes clip.

It’s good to see the Dr. is at work during a tough time. His wife of 24-years, Nicole Young, filed for divorce. Nicole sighted “Irreconcilable Differences” as the reason for the separation. Maybe this situation will bring us even more music from Dre, possibly a new album? We’ll have to wait and see.

“Wash In The Blood” looks to be the beginning of what’s next for Kanye, so far, it sounds like what we expect from him, but by no means are we unhappy with this track.
