The internet went crazy Sunday night after Kim Kardashian West posted a phone conversation between her husband, Kanye West and Taylor Swift on snap chat. The topic of conversation was Mr. West’s song “Famous”. The song was released earlier this year with the line “For all my Southside n****s that know me best, I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex – Why? I made that bitch famous”. When the song eventually came out and the inevitable backlash came, Kanye claimed to have an hour long conversation about the song with Taylor and got her “blessing”.

You would think, okay case closed – end of the story but this was not the case. Ms. Swift clapped back at the Grammy’s in February during her acceptance speech for Album Of The Year for her album 1989. “I want to say to the young women out there, there are going to be people along the way who try to undercut your success,” says Taylor “or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame”. Kim Kardashian was outraged and stood by her man, claiming Swift knew about the song already and was “playing the victim” – it turns out the discussion between West and Swift was recorded for documentary purchases since Kanye West filmed his entire recording process for his latest album The Life of Pablo.

Both parties seem to acknowledge the conversation took place (not at first), especially after Taylor Swift found out the recording existed (which is highly suspicious on Taylor’s part). Shortly, after this fact was exposed Taylor’s legal team asked that all recordings of the conversation be destroyed and obviously they were not. The debate is over, a portion of the lyrics, the line “That B***H!” specifically. Taylor says she knew nothing about being called “That B***H!”, which may be true based off of the audio Kim Kardashian provided.

Kanye: Oh ok, dope. You still got the Nashville number?

Taylor: I still have the Nashville area code, but I had to change it.

Kanye: “Too all my Southside n****s that know me best – I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex.”

Taylor: I’m like this close to overexposure.

Kanye: Oh. Well, this one is uh . . . I think this is a really cool thing to have, uh, definitely.

Taylor: I know. I mean, it’s like a compliment kind of. (laughs)

Kanye: What I give a f**k about is just you as a person and as a friend. I want things that make you feel good. I don’t want to do rap that makes people feel bad.

Taylor: Um . . . yeah. I mean, go with whatever line you think is better. It’s obviously very tongue-in-cheek either way.

Taylor: And I really appreciate you telling me about it, that’s really nice.

Kanye: Oh yeah. I just have a responsibility to you as a friend, you know? And uh, I mean, thanks for being, like, so cool about it.

Taylor: Aw, thanks. Um, yeah, I really appreciate it. Like, the heads up is so nice.

Taylor: Things without, like, even asking or seeing if I’d be okay with it – and I just really appreciate it. Like, I never would have expected you to tell me about a line in one of your songs. And then the flowers that you sent me, I, like, Instagrammed a picture of them and it’s the most Instagram likes I’ve ever gotten, it was like 2.7 –

Kanye: Relationships are more important than punchlines, you know?

Taylor: Yeah. I mean, I don’t think anybody would listen to that and be like, “Oh that’s a real, that’s a real dis, like, she must be crying about – “ . . . It’s just you gotta tell the story the way that it happened to you and the way that you experienced it. Like, you honestly didn’t know who I was before that. It doesn’t matter if I sold 7 million of that album before you did that, which is what happened, you didn’t know who I was before that. It’s fine. in the event that I can make these things happen and I have the idea to do it and I create these things and concepts and, like, I’m always going to respect you.

Taylor: And I’m really glad that you have the respect to call me and tell me that as a friend about the song and . . . It’s just like, it’s a really cool thing to do — and a really good show of friendship. So thank you.

Kanye: Thank you, too.

Taylor: And you know, if people ask me about it, I think it would be great for me to be like, “Look, he called me and told me the line before it came out. Like, joke’s on you guys, we’re fine.”  You guys want to call this a feud, you want to call this throwing shade but, you know, right after the song comes out I’m going to be on a Grammy red carpet and they’re going to ask me about it and I’m going to be like, “He called me.”

Taylor: . . . . and awesome that you’re so outspoken, and it’s going to be like “Yeah she does, it made her famous.” You know, so it’s more provocative to say “might still have sex” because . . .

Taylor: It’s not . . . it’s not . . . it doesn’t matter to me. There’s not, like, one that hurts my feelings and one that doesn’t.

It’s illegal to record a phone call without the consent of all parties involved in the state of California. Word is Taylor is seeking legal action against Mr. and Mrs. West. Plus claiming the couple has “assassinated” her character – Swift should have acknowledged the conversation took place at the Grammys instead of leading people to think Kanye’s lyrics came out of nowhere and Mr. West should have completed the entire line of lyrics as well – I applaud the early attempt to make amends, hopefully, both parties can get back to that place and continue making great music.
