Childish Gambino's "This is America" single cover.

Childish Gambino‘s ‘This Is America’ goes platinum with over 218 Million views on YouTube

It’s only been a few weeks since Childish Gambino‘s video for “This Is America” dropped and it’s continuing to make a mark — not only consciously — but on the charts. It’s official, “This is America” is now a certified platinum track by the RIAA.

Writer, actor, singer and comedian Donald Glover should be proud of the video’s success. Considering it’s vivid message, Glover dances throughout while chaos ensues all-around him — this is an estimated message and a remarkably engaging music video.

“This Is America” ran out of the gate, debuting at #1 for two weeks on the Billboard Charts, #1 on iTunes in over 45 markets and over 218 million views on YouTube.

The intriguing, Hiro Murai-directed video, is tied for 5th place as the fastest growing video on YouTube. The song is #1 on YouTube’s U.S. Top Music Videos and U.S. Top Songs.

Donald Glover continues to amass success, appearing as a young Lando Calrissian in the — mixed reviewed — film Solo: A Star War Story. His TV show Atlanta continues to shine and he may appear in Ryan Coogler‘s Black Panther 2.

“This Is America” is surprisingly not the first single on Childish Gambino’s forthcoming solo album. Which Glover says is his “final” album — a follow-up to 2016’s Awaken! My Love. A critically acclaimed LP at number 9 on our Best Albums of 2016 review.

If Glover keeps bringing flames like “This Is America” — we wonder what else is on his next album.
