Fourth of July weekend, Dave Chappelle and friends performed and partied at the ‘Chappelle Summer Camp‘ event for a few hours.

Chappelle hosted the ‘Chappelle Summer Camp‘ event, all while stressing social distancing and testing. This show is one of the few live events to happen during the ongoing pandemic. Dave and his famous friends celebrated a night of comedy, hip-hop, and Soul staples.

Dave Chappelle invited Erykah Badu, Talib Kweli, Common, Cipha Sounds, and Questlove to perform. He also asked Chapelle Show alumni Donnell Rawlings, Tiffany Haddish, Joh Hamm, Issa Ali, DJ Trauma, Michael Che, and Michelle Wolf. It’s been months since most of them performed in front of a live audience. Questlove has not played on a drumset for four months.

Questlove said on Instagram, “To be honest, a lot of us were afraid of how rusty we’ve become since March.”

Four-hundred people gathered for six hours in a cornfield. Everyone was tested, and the audience were supplied with face covers. The masks had Daves famous red, black, and green “C” emblem printed on them — and 2020 to commemorate the event.

‘Chappelle Summer Camp’ lighter than Dave’s 8:46 Special.

Last month Dave Chappelle filmed a special 8:46 which is available on YouTube. The comedian didn’t tell many jokes during the 30-minute stand-up (social commentary), but it engaged many viewers. The special is acclaimed due to its real conversation surrounding the killing of George Floyd and many others.

8:46 was filmed at his home in Yellow Springs, OH, the same location as the ‘Chappelle Summer Camp.’ Eighty-seven days had passed since his last show at the time. He performed in Cleveland, OH to a sold-out crowd at the end of 2019.

Many of his fans were happy to hear from him as he brought his perspective on the lack of justice in America. Again it’s not stand-up, but more of a venting session over anything else. If you haven’t seen 8:46, you can find it on Netflix‘s YouTube channel Netflix is a Joke.
